Meet our Speakers:

Jan Armstrong, World Citizen Award 2022

Jan Armstrong has served in leadership positions in several service organizations with deep connections to humanitarian, development, and conservation initiatives across the world. As a member of the Kansas City Rotary Club, Jan helped immunize children against polio in India in 2006, and made trips in 2013, 2014 and 2019 to monitor Rotary-funded education projects in three schools in Zambia. Jan has served as an International Ambassador for Nature Conservancy and vice chairperson of its Missouri Chapter. In this role, Jan observed and evaluated projects to protect the environment in several nations. She has served as vice president of Edgar Snow Memorial Foundation, committee chair of the Society for Friendship with China, and is a member of the Sister City Association of Kansas City. Jan also is a proud member of Zonta International.

Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator in India

Shombi Sharp is the United Nations Resident Coordinator in India, appointed to that position by Secretary-General

António Guterres in November 2021. Shombi previously served as UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia (2018-2021), UN Development Program Deputy Resident Representative in Georgia (2014-2018), UNDP Deputy Country Director in Lebanon (2010-2014), UNDP Europe and CIS Regional HIV/AIDS Practice Team Leader based out of Moscow (2006-2010), UNDP Program Manager for the Western Balkans based out of New York (2005-2006) and UNDP

Assistant Resident Representative in Russia (2002-2005). He began his career in development first as a volunteer and then strategic planner, project manager and crisis response coordinator with CARE International in Zimbabwe (1997-2000).
